Pauline E. Smith, 97, passed away at home on November 2, 2017. Pauline was the beloved daughter of Arch and Maude Brown and was born October 30, 1920, in Caldwell, Arkansas. She was the third oldest of 15 children. Her three living sisters are Gloria, Glenda, and Jane.

Everyone called her “Polly” and that nickname fit her personality. Polly met her husband of 55 years in St. Louis during the war years. They married in Sioux City, Iowa and later moved to Cleveland and then to Indianapolis. Polly and Bob had two children, Barbara and David, by 1948. Both children Survive their mother.

Polly was not only a devoted wife to Bob, but also, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a homemaker who devoted her life to her family. Polly was blessed with her daughter Barbara’s children: grandson Bryan and granddaughter, Tracy. Bryan and his wife, Page blessed Nana with great-grandchildren: Brendon, Cormac, Griffin, and Caleb. Tracy’s children, Riley and Brady loved their time with Nana as well. Son David blessed his mother with grandchildren Heather, Kelly, and Nicole. Grandma spent lots of time with each grandchild and great-grandchild.

Some of the best memories of Polly’s life include times spent together on family vacations, holiday and birthday gatherings and times spent with loving relatives and friends. Polly was well known for always wanting to feed you. You never were in her presence without an offer of delicious food.

Polly was a Christian from a young age. She attended church in Caldwell and later attended church in Indianapolis as she worshiped her Savior, Jesus Christ. She rests in his eternal arms, fully at peace after a long and beautiful life full of love here on earth.

My condolences to you and your family on the loss of your dear loved one. Losing a loved one is a distressing and painful time. We have assurance from God’s word at Psalm 34:18 that he is near to those brokenhearted and he saves those crushed in spirit. It is my hope that your family will find strength to endure during the days ahead.
